Contribute towards the creation of a crown worthy of Our Lady of Fatima
During celebrations of the 100th anniversary of the Miracle of the Sun at Fatima organised by the World Apostolate of Fatima, there is the opportunity for contributing towards the creation of a beautiful crown worthy of Our Lady of Fatima. During the visitations of the Pilgrim Statue to cathedrals of England and Wales the faithful are invited to bring jewellery, or other items, of gold and silver which will be incorporated into a new crown specially created by the Portuguese Jewelers, Leitão & Irmão.
This was how the world-famous crown of Our Lady of Fatima was created in 1942 by the grandfather of Mr Jorge Leitao, the current managing director of Leitão & Irmão. The original crown, richly bejewelled and containing the bullet that went through the body of Pope St John Paul II on 13th May 1981, is worn in Fatima on the 13th of the month.
The grandson of Mr Leitao will present a special new silver gilt crown which Leitão & Irmão have designed and created for the 100th anniversary. The donations of jewellery will be incorporated into the World Apostolate of Fatima crown. (The design of the crown can be seen below).
Cardinal Nichols will receive, bless and crown the World Apostolate of Fatima National Pilgrim Virgin statue in Westminster Cathedral on Sat 18th February 2017. During the celebration, His Eminence will renew the consecration of England and Wales to the Immaculate Heart of Mary that was made by Cardinal Griffin on 16th July 1948.
When Pope Francis renewed the consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary at Rome on 13th October 2013, the Marian Day in the Year of Faith, in the presence of Our Lady’s statue from Fatima, Cardinal Nichols made the following comment:
“Devotion to Mary is not an optional ‘add-on’ to Catholic belief, but an expression of what is at the heart of our faith. To draw close to Mary is to draw close to Jesus. As the earliest Christian witnesses often taught, Mary was open to receiving Jesus in her mind and in her heart before she gave birth to him in her flesh. For this reason she is the first of all the disciples of the Lord as she is the most faithful of all the Lord’s followers. In her maternal love of us she continues to assist us in our following of Him; a consecration to her Immaculate Heart gives expression to this in a simple way”.
A receipt from the World Apostolate of Fatima and Leitao & Irmao for each gift for Our Lady will be given to the donor, and the items will transferred to their office in Portugal. You can also bring your prayer petitions to Our Lady, and the WAF will arrange to have them placed under her statue in the Chapel of the Apparitions in Fatima.
