How to get EWTN

If you have a broadband internet connection and an ordinary TV, the easiest and cheapest way to get EWTN Catholic Television is with Roku. Find out more!

EWTN television is available to all SKY viewers on its Electronic Programme Guide (EPG) Channel 589 under the Religion category. EWTN radio is also available to all Sky viewers on EPG Channel 0147 under the Radio category. If you do not receive SKY as a monthly subscriber, EWTN is still available to you with the SKY FREESAT service, which includes satellite dish, receiver and installation for a "one time charge" - currently £175. There are no further monthly or other charges. With SKY FREESAT you will be able to watch all the 240 Free to View channels including EWTN and the traditional BBC and ITV channels. Monthly SKY subscribers can cancel their subscription at the end of their contract, and continue to view all the 240 free channels including EWTN. Sky provides parental control procedures.

Some viewers prefer to choose and purchase their own satellite dish and receiver from a local supplier offering installation (total cost range £200 to £275). As with SKY FREESAT this would also enable you to receive all the free to view channels on the Eurobird Satellite. You could also receive all the free to view channels on the nearby Astra 2 Satellite which includes more than two hundred English language channels, including the traditional BBC and ITV channels.

EWTN UK television and EWTN Radio Europe/UK are broadcast on satellite Eurobird at frequency 12523MHz Symbol rate 27500 Polarity Horizontal.

EWTN UK television (but not EWTN radio) is also broadcast on satellite Hot Bird 6, but relatively few other English language channels are broadcast from this satellite. Italian speakers may wish to choose Hot Bird 6 because many Italian channels are broadcast free to view – including the three religious channels Telepace, TV 2000 and Padre Pio. Besides Italian, Polish and other Eastern European programmes, as well as Arabic prevail.

EWTN UK television is broadcast on satellite Hot Bird 6 at frequency 11585MHz Symbol rate 27500 Polarity Vertical and FEC 3/4.

EWTN broadcasts radio in two languages - English and Spanish. You can listen to EWTN radio by shortwave radio as described in this section, but you can also listen by Satellite or by Internet. The digital radio broadcast by satellite is of high quality – and the European/UK broadcast are only available by Satellite.

You can refer here to see shortwave frequency guide for tuning in to the global shortwave transmissions. The Radio Programme Schedules also generally show the frequencies and times for tuning in.

EWTN Radio is not currently broadcast by any UK AM/FM broadcasters, but would be available to them to broadcast free of cost. EWTN welcomes interest from AM/FM broadcasters in becoming affiliates. We encourage you to write to your local AM/FM broadcasters requesting that EWTN content be added. EWTN in the US would be pleased to hear from them at europedesk@ewtn.com or on telephone number (USA) 001 787 287 2888.

IPTV (Internet Protocol TV) is gradually expanding in the UK as both telephone companies and Virgin Media expand their service to their customers by offering "Triple Play" (Internet Broadband + Telephone + Television). BT Vision is the major provider, followed by Virgin Media. TalkTalk (formerly Tiscali) has also entered this field recently.

BT Vision uses the Freeview programming which does not include EWTN. We suggest that viewers send petitions to Virgin Media and TalkTalk for EWTN programming to be included in their respective selection of TV channels.
You should write to Virgin Media at:

Virgin Media Consumer Team, PO Box 3786, Swansea SA7 9BB.

You should write to TalkTalk at:

TalkTalk Correspondence Dept, PO Box 360, Southampton SO30 2LY.

EWTN is not available on Freeview. Sky Freesat and (BBC/ITV) Freesat both offer a comparable service to Freeview but EWTN TV and Radio are also available (see here). EWTN is available on Sky Freesat without any further tuning. If you install a Sky Freesat or (BBC/ITV) Freesat dish and receiver to receive EWTN, you can still watch all your Freeview channels on the same television.

BBC/ITV Freesat dishes are set to receive from Eurobird and Astra 2 satellites. Alhough EWTN is not included in the BBC Freesat EPG, both EWTN TV and Radio channels should be available to you via your BBC Freesat receiver. Under EU Law every satellite receiver must be capable of tuning in to all available channels on the satellite.

Some receivers permit you to automatically tune to a list of hundreds of free to view channels on Eurobird and Astra 2 satellites, from which you can choose EWTN and others to include in your "Favourites" list. Other receivers will require manual tuning to locate a particular channel among the free to air channels on the satellite. In this case follow the manufacturer's instructions and enter EWTN's frequency, symbol rate and polarity details as mentioned above for the Eurobird satellite. For details of some commonly used receivers go here.

Most receiver manufacturers offer a technical support helpline which you can call if you need more help with tuning.

Neither EWTN TV nor EWTN Radio are currently included by Cable TV company Virgin Media in its channel selection, though EWTN programming would be available to Virgin Media free of cost. We recommend that as a Cable TV subscriber you write to Virgin Media to request EWTN be added:

Virgin Media Consumer Team, PO Box 3786, Swansea SA7 9BB,

Sky Freesat and (BBC/ITV) Freesat both offer similar free channels to Cable but EWTN TV and Radio are also available (see here). EWTN is available on Sky Freesat without any further tuning. If you install a Sky Freesat or (BBC/ITV) Freesat dish and receiver to receive EWTN, you can still watch all your Cable channels on the same television.
